BLOBS #25

Happy New Year!  I hope all of your goal setting kicked off and 2015 is shimmering with great promises.  Maybe you've tweaked your daily routine (mine is draw everyday - no matter what) or maybe it's about making something happen only once this year...like doing something you wouldn't normally enjoy (I signed up for a mini-marathon in May).  My challenge is to find ways to like running so I can see the finish line.  Whatever your 2015 promise is  - you've written something down!

We have a "Little Goal Box" that sits quietly on our mantle throughout the year.  Its plain and rests behind seasonal cards that overpower it come February...but for the 3rd year now it has been serving a hefty purpose.  Sometime before midnight on NYE, we scribble away 3 or 4 things each of us want to accomplish/do for the new year and refill that little box.  Cram it, might be the better phrase.  With just enough room for all of our promises, it goes right back to the mantle - staying closed until the following NYE. 

Do we forget what we wrote?  Yes!  But THOSE little slips of paper are usually the more amusing ideas we unfold (and...can't be shared here).  The goals we DO remember though - are the big ones.  The ones that don't need to be recycled...

BLOBS #23 RESULTS

HAPPY FRIDAY!  Hope your day is going well and holiday happenings are warming your homes : )  The weekend for us will be filled with movie watching & popcorn, Christmas tree picking, decorating, homemade chicken pot pie (still looking for a great recipe...please drop me an email if you have one!) family visiting and a kids choir concert.  

I also just signed on a super fun local magazine project so check back in for those results in the weeks to come AND still have a story deadline nearing.  Pencil sketches it is.  Had lots of fun and did a couple variations with the first shape.  I wasn't sold on the initial design, so put an environmental twist on it.  See SHAPE 1 below....

BLOBS #21

This weekend was jam packed.  It kicked off with family on Friday which sandwiched a Saturday with great friends, then ended with more family Sunday.  I caught up with my wonderful Uncle today, who was telling me about a picture book he remembered growing up with called, "The Little House" by Virginia Lee Burton (he is now an architect!).  I looked it up later and learned it won the Caldecott Medal in 1943!  You can find readings of it on youtube, but a hard copy would definitely serve the sweet illustrations better I'm thinking.

Books at a young age are so powerful!  They color our interests and stay in our minds just like the memories we make with family and friends.  What are your favorite picture books?
